Opening Day

Opening Day is one of my favorite days of camp. I can always feel the excitement in the air between the counselors who cannot wait to welcome their girls and the famous line down and across Oldham Road filled with anxious campers ready to start their summers.  Nothing makes me happier than seeing the campus filled with smiling faces and the laughter of our campers we look forward to all year.  And of course the best part is to watch the campers running up to each other hugging and squealing, excited to kick off another fantastic season with their summer sisters.

This summer, we have a wonderful staff of 72, the most counselors ever on staff, who all get along beautifully with one another.  On opening day, our maintenance staff efficiently assisted with the emptying of cars, helping parents move quickly and effortlessly throughout the camp.  I’m so fortunate to have such a wonderful head staff, who gets better and better each year at coordinating and preparing for opening day.  And of course, a big thank you to the kitchen, who made the traditional grilled cheese and french fries, our official Pembroke opening day lunch.
If you haven’t seen the video from our opening night evening program, you can view the video on our Facebook page.  We had a special performance by the entire counselor and administrative staff.  In true ‘Brokie spirit, the whole camp joined in, which was such a wonderful way to welcome everyone back to their summer home.  I’m thrilled to see so many smiling faces and I’m looking forward to a fantastic summer with my Pembroke family!
