One Bat Mitzvah Gift Making A Difference on GivingTuesday

  • IMG_4585

In advance of Giving Tuesday, I wanted to share this photo with you, as well as the incredible thoughtfulness behind it.  One of our campers who recently celebrated her Bat Mitzvah decided that instead of flowers on the bimah, she preferred to create baskets filled with items that girls new to Camp Pembroke would need.  She knows that not everyone can afford all the extra, optional items that campers want to bring with them to camp, ones that enhance the Pembroke experience but aren’t required, like the camp chair or an autograph pillow. These beautiful baskets are filled with a variety of choice items, all of which will make anyone new to camp feel like they have been part of the Camp Pembroke sisterhood forever.  These colorful and thoughtful items will be distributed to campers who are less fortunate than some of us, and who, without the generosity and creativity of this family, would not be able to afford to purchase them.

This donation was made in the true spirit of giving, and because tomorrow is designated as “Giving Tuesday,” I wanted to tell this inspirational story.  It is the story of one family who recognized a need at Camp Pembroke, and took the initiative to meet that need. While early for #GivingTuesday, this is nevertheless a #GivingTuesday story. It is a story of generosity, and one to be celebrated. I sincerely thank this Bat Mitzvah girl and her family for their caring and support of our Camp Pembroke community.  There are many campers who will be so grateful for their insight and kindness, as they embark on the first season of their Pembroke journey.

There are all types of gifts on Giving Tuesday. Camp scholarships, gifts of love, gifts of support, gifts of friendship. This camper has done it all, and I am so proud to be able to share her story with you.

The demand for Camp Pembroke scholarships continues to rise, which is why this #GivingTuesday, all donations will be earmarked for camp scholarships. We are asking for your generosity, both of spirit and money, to help send girls to camp this summer. It’s easy: go to our GivingTuesday web page, make a donation, and while you’re at it – tell us why you gave by sharing your unselfie with us on Facebook.

What a special way for Camp Pembroke to kick off “Giving Tuesday!”

With love and appreciation to all of our Pembroke families,

    Ellen
