Welcoming Carrie Singer to Camp Pembroke

  • It is with great excitement that I welcome Carrie Singer to the Administrative staff of Camp Pembroke!   Her official title is Staff Development Coordinator and Self-Esteem Program Coordinator.  Carrie’s role this summer is to work closely with Sue Callum, our Program Director, and collaborate with our three head counselors; Linda Schiffman, Sue Barash and Laurie Hitrys, and me to create new and meaningful training programs for our exemplary group of counselors.  Staff training and development is integral to the successful operation of Camp Pembroke, and we are already working with Carrie toward providing training sessions that support the needs of every staff member at camp.  It is our goal to be the best that we can be, and to provide the best counselors and quality programs for our campers that we can.

Carrie will also coordinate our upper camp “Chazak – Chazak” Self-esteem program to keep it fresh, relevant and unique.  She will be interviewing new speakers and researching new topics to bring to camp in order to enhance the program this summer.

Carrie comes to Camp Pembroke with many years of experience in Jewish camp leadership.  She grew up attending Camp Ramah in the Berkshires and worked at Brooks Day Camp during her teenage years.  Most recently, Carrie was Assistant Director at Camp Laurelwood in Connecticut for two summers.  While there, she served in varied capacities including head counselor, office manager, Judaic Director, staff recruiting, and staff training and development.  During the “other months” while not at camp, Carrie works as the Youth Engagement and PJ Library Coordinator for the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut, teaches Hebrew School, and tutors Bar and Bat Mitzvah students.  She holds degrees from Brandeis University and Hebrew College and has been a Jewish educator for well over 20 years.  Carrie lives in Connecticut with her husband Eugene and campers/daughters Michelle and Mia.

When asked how she perceives her new role at Camp Pembroke, Carrie says “I am passionate about all things Jewish camp!  My focus and intent this summer is to help take Camp Pembroke beyond its current level of excellence by adding value to current programs, staff training, and Jewish culture.  I enjoy helping staff learn, expand and refine their skills.  My success will be measured in camper smiles and memories made. I am looking forward to the beginning of the summer!”

I am confident that Carrie will add a completely new and wonderful dimension to our Administrative team, all of whom are thrilled to welcome her to Camp Pembroke.  I know that you are all going to love her as much as we do, and I can’t wait to introduce her to you in person at camp this summer.

In anticipation of the best season yet,

    Ellen
