Ellen Felcher, Director

Ellen, Director since 2004, has been a member of the Pembroke family since 1999, starting as Program Director and serving as Co-Director for two summers. Ellen brings with her a strong camping background along with fine leadership qualities and unlimited creativity, and a love of arts and crafts, nature activities and sailing. Her daughter attended Camp Pembroke for 13 summers, and her son went to overnight camp for 14 summers.

Ellen has been teaching first-grade Hebrew School for 15 years, taught Judaic pre-kindergarten for five years, was the K-1 teacher at the local Jewish Day School, and is an active volunteer in her home community. She holds a BA in Elementary and Special Education from Boston University, an MS in Public Health from Harvard University, and an MBA from Columbia University.

Year-round Staff

Ellen is supported by the staff of the Cohen Camps that includes a full-time staff recruiter. Sharing a year-round office with the Directors of the other Cohen Camps (Tel Noar and Tevya) offers a unique opportunity for all three camps to share ideas and refine best practices to our campers’ great benefit.

Summer Staff

The Pembroke staff prides itself on being role models and making a positive impact on our campers. Many of our staff were Pembroke campers themselves. Some of our counselors come from abroad, including a contingent from Israel, which greatly enhances the camp experience.

The administrative and supervisory personnel are camping professionals and educators with many years of experience working with children.

Staff members are chosen for their experience, maturity, creativity, and sense of responsibility. Our summer staff attends a week-long Staff Orientation, in addition to individual specialty training to improve teaching skills. Ongoing training continues throughout the summer with seminars and a weekly staff meeting.
