Evening Activities & Special Events
Counselors throughout camp regularly create special evening activities which campers look forward to all day long. Traditional evening activities include Talent Shows, Game Shows, Campfires, Ms. Israel, MTV Night, College Night, inter-camp Socials and Movies.
Each summer, Camp Pembroke has the pleasure of welcoming special entertainers for our evening programs. In previous years, entertainment has included the Israeli Scouts, Jewish Rock bands, magicians, disk jockeys and game show hosts.
Color War is a cherished camp tradition featuring the long-anticipated “break” which always succeeds in getting campers and counselors alike excited about the three-day event. Our Color War activities not only initiate true team spirit but assist in developing leadership skills. The competitions culminate in a ceremony that reunites the camp, reinforcing the fact that everyone comes out of Color War a winner.
Our campers take part in exciting off-site camp excursions which include: professional theatre performances, sporting events, water parks and beach days. Older campers participate in overnight trips specifically designed for their age group.
The S Team Project
We are proud to offer the unique ‘S Team Project’ to our oldest campers. This innovative program promotes self esteem in older campers through a series of speakers, activities and discussion groups exploring topics relevant to today’s Jewish young women. The program covers topics such as body image, the place of women in Judaism and Israel, nutrition, conflict resolution at camp and at home, and the discovery of one’s individuality and personal identity.
This program is supported by the Hadassah and Ben Blocker Fund. Hadassah Blocker served as Director of Camp Pembroke from 1946 to 1977 and was a role model for both Pembroke campers and other Jewish women all over New England whom she taught and mentored.
