For Camp Pembroke Campers
I am going to camp with my sister. Will I see her during the day?
Yes, that’s what is terrific about our camp. We are set up to encourage community and interaction among all age groups.
Where will I live at camp?
You will live in one of our bunks with other campers in your grade. Your cabin has electricity, showers, toilets, and sinks. You also have a wooden dresser to store your clothes and belongings, as well as additional storage space.
What will I do throughout the day?
Your day starts with flag raising and breakfast. You have three activity periods before lunch, then a rest period and three activity periods in the afternoon. After flag lowering and dinner, you enjoy a free play time and then an evening activity. Bedtime ranges between 9 pm and 10:30 pm depending on your age.
Do I walk to my activity with my bunkmates?
Generally, campers go to their elective activities with friends from their own age group, and oftentimes, bunks walk together when it’s a bunk activity period.
What are special activities at camp?
Special activities can be a change to the normal day’s activities, or can be a special evening activity. Color War, which happens once each season, is a special activity that breaks the camp into teams for a fun competition. Other special events might include performers who visit camp, overnight campouts, barbeques, day and evening trips out of camp, or an Olympic Day.
Do I sit with my bunk for meals?
The first day of each session the cabins sit together to solidify the bunk members as a group. However, for the rest of the summer we organize family-style tables with girls of mixed ages and two counselors. This is our way or insuring that campers and staff get to know each other throughout the season. We will switch tables midway through each session to further encourage new acquaintances.
Will there be food I like to eat at camp?
In addition to a hearty breakfast that includes cereal and could include everything from pancakes to eggs, there are popular entrees at lunch and dinner such as pizza, grilled cheese, breaded chicken nuggets and delicious desserts. For those who sometimes would like an alternative selection, we offer a full salad bar and a pasta bar during every lunch and dinner.
Do all campers take swim instruction classes?
At our camp, we try to expose you to a number of different activities to teach you new skills. Each day our campers will have swim instruction in our lake (and pool) and supervised by Red Cross certified Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors. Our camp has an excellent record of passing campers through the standard Red Cross levels. For campers who have passed all levels and are over 15 years of age, we offer a Lifeguard training class. Campers who enjoy swimming can also try out for our swim teams which compete in two inter-camp tournaments each summer.
