Clay and Ceramics

Creativity & Arts

Camp Pembroke, which is dedicated to presenting a well-rounded camping experience that includes creativity and creating projects to take home and cherish, is well-known for its visual and Performing Arts. Campers express themselves and the values they learn at camp through the following programs:

Arts & Crafts is an integral part of the daily program, allowing for self-expression in many venues. The modern studio includes facilities and supplies for fabric art, jewelry-making, mosaic art, nature crafts, painting & sketching, puppetry, quilting, scrap booking, sewing and tie-dying. Campers develop skill in working with clay, both freehand and on the potters’ wheels in our ceramics studio. The arts and crafts staff has experience that they are most anxious to share with campers.

Dance is one of our most popular choices each summer. Campers learn belly dancing, jazz, hip-hop, tap, and other modern dance steps and create their own dance routines which are often presented to the entire camp community.

Our paper bag dramatics and other interactive activities program enables a camper to discover her potential while she develops poise and performance skills. Our musicals and original productions are accompanied by song, scenery, lighting and creative costuming. Campers also have the opportunity to design and create sets, props and costumes for the Pembroke productions. Over 150 campers participate in the drama elective and are part of out productions each summer.

Music is a major part of the Camp Pembroke experience for all campers—whether they are singing the daily prayers, practicing for a musical, singing in the choir, enjoying wonderful camp-wide Shira sessions, singing around a campfire or preparing for the renowned Jewish Arts Festival. We incorporate many old favorite Pembroke songs in our repertoire and add new melodies every summer.
